Commanding a prominent position overlooking the village of Cannero Riviera and offering panoramic views of Lake Maggiore, this new residential building centers its conceptual core on the dialogue with the site’s complex orography. Set within a steeply sloping plot shaped by historic stone terraces, the architecture emerges as a sharp, contemporary landmark, capable of engaging with the pre-existing environment while maintaining a distinct modern identity.
The project's expressive language is defined by the dynamic intersection of the bold horizontal lines of the wide terraces and the emphasized verticality of the external elevator shaft. Serving as a spatial hinge between the garage, technical rooms, and living levels, this shaft stands as a minimalist technological "totem." Clad on its south and west elevations with black photovoltaic panels, it generates clean energy while seamlessly integrating into the dark, rigorous design of the facades.
To firmly anchor the work to its landscape, the non-residential base volumes are faced with local stone, forming a textural base that echoes the masonry of the surrounding traditional dry-stone walls. Resting upon this solid foundation are the upper volumes, finished in sophisticated tones of dark brown and anthracite. Here, the generous terraces—framed by frameless glass balustrades—dematerialize visual boundaries, ensuring absolute permeability toward the landscape. Although the complex asserts a deliberate formal discontinuity from the older surrounding urban fabric, its impact is expertly mitigated through a precise chromatic and textural strategy for the exterior finishes.
The intervention reaches its engineering and scenographic pinnacle in the design of the swimming pool. Given the steep gradient and the lack of natural level ground, the pool was conceived to extend boldly, cantilevered toward the lake. Water thus becomes an architectural element suspended in mid-air, a visual continuum that seems to flow directly into the blue of the lake below. This daring compositional choice transcends mere structural virtuosity; it seals the narrative of the entire project, translating physical constraints into spatial opportunities and resolving the union between the built form and the terrain in a synthesis of rigorous architectural coherence.

In posizione dominante a ridosso dell’abitato di Cannero Riviera, con vista panoramica sul Lago Maggiore, si è realizzato questo nuovo fabbricato residenziale che fa del confronto con la complessa orografia del sito il proprio fulcro concettuale. All'interno di un lotto scosceso, scolpito da terrazzamenti in pietra, l'architettura si inserisce come un segno nitido, capace di dialogare con le preesistenze senza rinunciare a una spiccata identità contemporanea.
Il linguaggio espressivo del progetto risiede nell'intersezione dinamica tra le decise linee orizzontali delle ampie terrazze e l'accentuata verticalità del corpo ascensore esterno. Quest'ultimo, fungendo da cerniera spaziale tra l'autorimessa, i locali tecnici e i livelli abitativi, si erge a "totem" tecnologico di matrice minimalista: rivestito sui prospetti sud e ovest con pannelli fotovoltaici neri, l'elemento genera energia pulita integrandosi in modo mimetico nel design scuro e rigoroso delle facciate.
Al fine di ancorare saldamente l’opera al contesto paesaggistico, i volumi basamentali non abitativi presentano un paramento in pietra locale, dando forma a un podio materico che rievoca la tessitura dei tradizionali muri a secco circostanti. Su tale solida base si innestano i volumi superiori, declinati nelle severe tonalità del marrone scuro e dell'antracite. Qui, le generose terrazze, delimitate da parapetti in vetro, smaterializzano i confini visivi garantendo un'assoluta permeabilità verso il paesaggio. Sebbene il complesso dichiari una voluta discontinuità formale rispetto al più datato tessuto edilizio limitrofo, il suo impatto viene sapientemente mitigato da un'accurata strategia cromatica e di texture degli esterni.
